One of the scariest emotional experiences a person can ever suffer during their lifetime is to experience a form of depression. Over one in five Americans can expect to get some form of depression in their lifetime. Over one in twenty Americans have a depressive disorder every year. Depression is one of the most common and most serious mental health problems facing people today. However, depression is often not taken seriously because of the large use of antidepressant drugs and the large number of sufferers. Depression is a serious illness and should be taken as so. Contrary to the popular misconceptions about depression today, it is a serious and deadly disorder.1   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Depression in its various forms (insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, stress, vague aches and pains, etc.) is the most common complaint heard in doctors’ offices. There are three primary forms of depression. Major depression, like the flu, has a beginning, middle, and an end. Major depression often lasts for months. Left untreated, it tends to reoccur. Each reoccurrence tends to last longer and is more debilitating than the one before. Chronic depression is a low grade, long-term depression that can go on for years. Some people have had it most of their lives. Long term, low-grade depression is also known as dysthymia. Dys, meaning disorder, and thymia meaning mood. Dysthmia is then a disorder of ones mood. The last type is manic depression. The lows of this depression can alter with days or weeks of maniaextreme feelings, unreasonable thoughts, and inappropriate, sometimes destructive behavior. The manic-depressive person fluctuates from one emotional pole to anoth er, often in rapid swings. 3   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many symptoms of depression. Symptoms can include persistent sad or â€Å"empty† mood, loss of interest or pleasure in ordinary activities, including sex, decreased energy, fatigue, being â€Å"slowed down†, Sleep disturbances such as insomnia, early morning wakes or oversleeping, eating disturbances such as loss of appetite and weight, or weight gain, difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness, thoughts of death or suicide, suicide attempts, irritability, excessive crying, or chronic aches and pains that don’t respond to treatment. Many people who have clinical depression can feel down, sad, ... ...gloominess, pessimism, introversion, self-criticism, deep feelings of inadequacy, and excessive brooding and worrying. People who regularly behave in dependent, hostile, and impulsive ways appear at greater risk for depression. Psychologists also believe that stressful experiences can trigger depression in people who are predisposed to the illness. About 20 percent of women experience an episode of depression after having a baby; this is called postpartum depression. Also, people who experience child abuse appear to be more vulnerable to depression than others.1   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Depression affects people all around the world and takes over many lives. It is a detectable disease. Most every case of depression is very personal, and usually has it’s own specifications and circumstance. By speaking with people who have depression in their families and being a sufferer of the disease myself, I’ve realized that it’s not the end of the world and there are ways to get help. Treatment for depression is relativity inexpensive but whatever the cost; it is more than made up for an increased productivity, efficiency, physical health, improved relationships, and enjoyment of life.

Revisiting Recommendations of the Marketing Plan

The key focuses of the marketing plan are as follows: Cooperative Marketing: Techniques to create additional market awareness for two companies in one ad campaign. Offering discounts to the partners customer on the GGI products Advertising on Internet: Ads can be put on other companies’ websites, as well, in the form of banners and other â€Å"clickable† type links routing potential customers to our website. Another idea in the marketing plans talks of merging the two points mentioned. We can look at different internet sites for cities and towns, such as their respective Chamber of Commerce and other such sites where new residents, who are looking to furbish their homes, might look to for ideas of where to shop and what products to buy. The companies already respected and listed in the Chamber would be suitable for internet cooperative marketing ad campaigns. Collaborating with Dealers and Distributors : Dealers and/or independent distributors of our products could be allotted a budget to advertise based on a percentage of their net profits for the last year Measuring the effectiveness of the Marketing Plan Jaworski in his definition of marketing control states the Monitoring performance provides one informational means to help planned marketing activities produce desired results (Jaworski 1988, p.24). Control theory assumes that management has a strategy and a known set of intermediary stages (plans) with which actual performance can be compared. Metrics selection is a key process by which marketing managers can learn to improve performance by adjusting the utility levels associated with marketing. Say, if a company realizes that the performance in one of the marketing channel is not leading to the desired results they can look at realigning their strategy and look at a possibility of investing more in the other marketing avenues. Philip Kotler lists four types of marketing controls (table 22.1, p.685): annual-plan, profitability, efficiency and strategic. These distinguish whether the company is selecting the right goals (strategic), whether they are being achieved (effectiveness or annual-plan), where the company is making or losing money (profitability) and the return on marketing expenditure (efficiency). (Kotler 2003 pg 685) In the current landscape the most important for GGI is to expand its base and derive maximum mileage on minimum investment. The challenge is finding maximum share of voice in the cooperative marketing and raise Profit/Profitability Sales, Value and/or Volume Gross Margin Awareness Market Share (Volume or Value) Number of Consumer Complaints (Level of dissatisfaction) Consumer Satisfaction Distribution/Availability Total Number of Customers Marketing Spend Perceived Quality/esteem Loyalty/Retention TO achieve this, the following metrics are suggested for GGI The metrics for each marketing channel at a primary level should measure the efficiency of each channel i.e. the ROI on each channel as a whole, be it collaborative marketing or marketing through internet each channel has a role to play in the marketing strategy and that needs to be tracked. Share of wallet in case of distributor’s can be a good tool to be measured here. Each element of the channel needs to be measured on the following items: Consumer Attitudes consisting of Awareness, perceived quality, Satisfaction, relevance, image/personality, perceived differentiation, Consumer Behavior measuring Total number of customers, Number of new customers, reference customers and Loyalty Accounting would include sales, gross and net margins, profitability In case of GGI the stated metrics can be applied on the marketing channels like web marketing, cooperative marketing can be evaluated on the ROI. If the ROI of any channel is not satisfactory then the reasons can be explored from the metrics mentioned in point two (for each element). Perhaps one or more elements are not performing as expected. A remedial measure of finding a suitable element can be done. For example if the returns on the Cooperative marketing are not up to the mark we can view the performance of the elements. If they show inconsistency in data i.e. performance of some elements is satisfactory and others is not then we need to look at switching the partners chosen for cooperative marketing. On the other hand if all the elements reflect a poor quality then the channel strategy needs to be re-looked at. Improving on Metrics To improve on the metrics GGI needs to take the individual cases. For Web marketing the company needs to consider the different pricing model for putting up the banners at different websites. These models can be pay per click, fixed time banner, output based banners. The company can also look at Search Engine Optimization, Viral marketing as an extension to the Web marketing For Cooperative marketing the choice of channels would be the instrumental. Also improving on the share of voice in the common advertisement is importance.   The choice of partner is very critical. Many people believe that it is up to the child to decide what they do to their bodies but those decisions can negatively affect their overall wellbeing. Understanding that there are certain exceptions, such as it being medically necessary, to this, teenagers under the age of 18 should not be allowed, even with parental consent, to get plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes because it is harmful to their physical and mental health, as well as the economy in and outside hospitals and their futures. How Traditional Seaside Resorts Have Changed over the Last 50 Years free essay sample

Llandudno is an example of a seaside resort that was established in the 19th century. The photograph was taken in the 1960s when resorts such as this were still developing and flourishing as a ‘bucket and spade’ location. As you can see in the photograph, the resort of Llandudno is focussed around the bay and its beach. This would have previously been the main attraction to the area, however some resorts such as Blackpool and Brighton are now becoming more popular destinations for their nightlife and other attractions (such as Pleasure Beach Theme Park in Blackpool), rather than for the beaches themselves. This has resulted in smaller resorts such as Llandudno, which have a small number of attractions other than its beach, to become much less popular. Seaside resorts have changed over the past 50 years so that the main attraction is no longer the beach, but the various other attractions available. This shows that 50 years ago the main mode of transport used to access resorts such as Llandudno would have been by rail. However, this is no longer the case, as railways are used a lot less, and in some cases not at all. Therefore the land left from the reduced use of the railway station would have been converted into car parks or possibly building developments. This is because the use of cars and the development of motorways over the past 50 years has increased dramatically, and therefore resorts become much more accessible by road. This results in the need for more car parks, and it also means that more visitors choose only to visit for a day/weekend rather than a week. Furthermore, the pier that is visible towards the top right of the photograph would have undergone many changes over the past 50 years. Some piers become derelict due to the fact that there is very little local/foreign investment and visitor numbers have decreased dramatically, for example West Pier in Brighton. However, some piers receive some investment and therefore are renovated and new facilities added in an attempt to keep visitor numbers up, such as the pier in Bangor. Another example of a pier that has had much development is Eastbourne Pier. Here several nightclubs have been built on the pier, attracting many new visitors. The photograph shows a number of large buildings that line the bay. These, 50 years ago, would have been busy hotels. However because there has been a massive drop in visitor numbers to traditional seaside resorts over the past 50 years, these hotels will either be significantly less busy or derelict, or would have possibly been converted into offices/flats. In addition, the reasonably large buildings further inland would have been boarding houses/guesthouses. However, many of these will now have been changed into self-catering flats. Many hotels and guesthouses in seaside resorts have had to close over the past 50 years as visitor numbers have dropped. Blackpool, for example, is said to have more beds in hotels and bed breakfasts than in the whole of Portugal, however after its peak number of visitors in 1950 being 19 million, the resort has declined to the extent that now only 30% of the accommodation is actually occupied. This results in a lot of businesses having to close. There has been some minor development in Llandudno, however it would still be classified as in the declining stage of Butler’s Model. There are some bingo halls and a concert hall, as well as a new leisure centre. The changes are not just physical, however. There has been a social change over the past 50 years from seaside resorts being family based holidays, to supporting niche markets. As previously mentioned, Blackpool and Brighton are now known for their nightlife, most notably Blackpool which has been reported in the media to be a ‘binge drinking haven’. Seaside resorts such as Newquay are now very popular for its surf and also for young people who visit after completing their GCSE examinations. This, unfortunately, means that resorts such as Llandudno suffer greatly as they fail to support any niche markets other than a cheap family day trip/a destination for the elderly. There are several reasons for this decline in tourism in traditional seaside resorts. Most important is the establishment of cheap package holidays to more attractive destinations, where there are more attractions and services and often guaranteed good weather.
